Episode 16: Meme The Mets

When you think of the teams that sports fans have picked on for years, sooner or later the New York Mets will come up in the conversation.

Mets fans have heard all of the jokes for years now: how you can tell it’s autumn because the Mets aren’t playing baseball, how Mets stands for “My Entire Team Stinks”, and the less said on Bobby Bonilla Day, the better.

But something has changed this past season in Queens, where now, the Mets are no longer the joke; they’re the jokester. They’re making the wise cracks and getting the baseball world to laugh with them, and not at them for once.

This week, I sit down with Mets fans to discuss their journey as a fan, how they learned to laugh at themselves, and how they turn their memes into postseason dreams.
