BONUS: The Bond with a Father ft. Prem Aithal

As I was researching the full paper for this program, I came across an interesting line that talks about the psychological theories behind how one becomes a sports fan. It was discussing the idea of “Multiple In-Group Identity Framework (MIIF)”, a three part system that defines how big a fan you would be of a team based on identification with a team), geographical location, and relational group (family, friends, etc.). Further reading would state that there are specific influences for someone in their fan journey, as family and friends serve as key influences to what team or sport someone may choose to follow.

With that line in mind and Father’s Day a couple weeks ago, I wanted to highlight a story that showcases the unique bond that fathers and their children form over sports
