They’ve been described as brash, loud, and crass. They’re the market that started in the third division and now it’s the market that the MLS wished it had. This is the history of the Northern Guard and their team, Detroit City FC. Much has been discussed about their “bad guy” persona and how they’re ruining football, but today, I want to show you a softer side to this group. There are teams that say they’re for their cities as a snappy tagline, and then there’s a concept that myself and Jamie “JamJam” Johnston are going to introduce to you today: the idea of the “community club”.
