Episode 22: Fanfare w/ the Pro Football Ultimate Fan Association

If you watched any of the playoff games that kicked off this past weekend for the NFL, did you notice anything unique about the crowds? Any elaborate costumes or signs that you could point out? Every Sunday, you’ll see these kinds of fans in NFL crowds and over time, they become something of local legends. Anyone can become a fan of a team, regardless of how much energy they invest into that team, but what separates these fans from the superfans?

This is the question that I entered into this new year with, and tried to investigate with our first partner of our program, the Pro Football Ultimate Fan Association. Since 1999, this group of NFL superfans have worked together to use their passion to give back to their fellow fans. They helped pair me with 13 Fan of the Years that have been individually nominated by their NFL teams, as well as three members from the PFUFA to discuss their journey of fandom and how they’ve been able to turn their fanaticism into a football family.
